Created on August 14, 1957 from Proposition No. 38 of the XIX National Coffee Growers Congress, whereby the FNC CEO was recommended to prepare a commemorative program for the 30 years of foundation of the entity, including the creation of the Coffee Merit Order to honor growers and workers of the coffee industry. Later, it was named Manuel Mejía Coffee Merit Medal as a tribute to the former FNC CEO over 20 years, a distinguished figure of the coffee industry in Colombia and the world. This award is granted to those who have rendered services of special importance to the country’s coffee industry.
