Robusta

Coffee species (Coffea canephora) that yields smaller beans and is more resistant to diseases (especially rust). It produces a strong and bitter drink with higher caffeine content. It is generally grown below 1,000 masl, in countries such as Brazil, Vietnam, Indonesia and Uganda. It presumably originated in Zaire.

Chemical risks

Residues of fungicides, insecticides and herbicides, several of which are regulated for coffee, as well as solvents, fuels, smoke emissions, heavy metals, and mycotoxins.

Physical coffee risks

Presence of stones, glass, pieces of wood or metal; these affect only the coffee fruits and beans, not the drink.

Burned/Smoke (aroma)

Pulp

Exocarp (skin) and part of the mesocarp (mucilage) of the coffee bean. In ecological wet milling, pulp is one of the byproducts and is deposited in pits for its decomposition and later use in the crop.
